    Scientists moot gravity-busting hyperdrive.

The US military is considering testing the principle behind a type of space drive which holds the promise of reaching Mars in just three hours. The problem is, as New Scientist explains, it's entirely theoretical and many physicists admit they don't understand the science behind it.

Nonetheless, the so-called "hyperdrive" concept won last year's American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics award for the best nuclear and future flight paper.... Click Here for the rest of the article [The Register]

Unconfirmed & theoretical is the best description of the hypothesis. The general rule is if it's not been tested, the odds against it being true are greater than 95%.

Essentially, wild speculation cannot be distinguished from this hypothesis.

well all theories have got to start somewhere.

but for now and i guess for a long time to come it will just remain on paper.

Makes you wonder about all the S/F versions of Flying Saucers may not be too far of the beam??

I think that there are a lot of potential holes that will need to be filled before this theory is proven.

But what I did like was the concept of using electro-magnetic force, AND gravity together, as though they ar both related. I have always believed that the two are linked, just as the strong and weak powers of nuclear force are linked.

I believe that before we get something like this working, we will need to harness gravity and learn to use it as an artificial force. It would make a natural means of propulsion, with the ability to use constant acceleration, and the sky would be the limit.

And I think that there must exist some way to break the light barrier.

Anyway, it is worth exploring, at least from a math perspective.
