Almost eighteen years in the making, Big Blue Ball grew from three extraordinary Recording Weeks at Real World Studios in the summers of 1991, 1992 and 1995. The project's originators and curators were Real World founder Peter Gabriel and Karl Wallinger of World Party and The Waterboys.

If my post count were in binary this would be my tenth post. Just had to throw in that geeky little comment...

I have bad memories of Nightwish fans. In Ruisrock, Nightwish was the last band performing on that one stage, and there were two bands before that. The Nightwish fans reserved the front row as soon as the festival started, and the people who came to see At The Gates or Porcupine Tree couldn't get to the front row. We (Porcupine Tree fans) tried to negotiate with them, but no luck. We said to them that we are not interested in Nightwish, we just want to see PT from front row, and we would give them their places back as soon as the gig ends, but they wouldn't listen.

Now listening to: Opeth - Death Whispered a Lullaby.

Am 'i' listening to what enters 'my' ears?

Is there a witness of the senses?

    Is there an 'I'?

There are many sounds, which one is the one 'i' should refer to?

Good point actually, the thread title never actually reffered to music. Hm, well noticed.

You both missed the point but made two other of equal value.

i will put it another way..

I listen to no sound, my sense of sound moves ammong the sound objects.

There are many sounds, which one is the one 'i' should refer to?
    or should i write -
There are many sounds, which one is the one i should refer to 'i'?

So maybe sound listens into me .. got it?

Oh yeah. Would you hear a tree falling in a forest if no-one was there to hear it? Same thing I suppose. Although of course it would make a noise, the laws of physics aren't feeling obliged to perform themselves when we're there y'know.

A friend of mine introduced me to a new band - good band in fact - called "Porcupine Tree".

"Sound of Muzak" and "Russia On Ice" are my current favourites, though I wonder for how long ^^,

    World To Come - Gojira

The last track on this album is called Global Warming. Environmentally friendly death metal...doesn't get any better than that.

I've mentioned her before, but i've finally found a decent recording of one of her performances online.

Nine Inch Nails - For Beginners.

Compilation by my son who thought I needed educating. I dutifully listened to it yesterday and can't honestly say I'll ever bother to listen to it again. No doubt there are qualities that my ossified brain cannot appreciate, but it sounded like drum machine, synthesizer and whiner. Am I missing something?

I'm listening to the Sopranos y castrati

The history of castrati music is an interesting one. During the Baroque period [1650 - 1700], women were not permitted to sing or perform on stage, so that men performed their roles. To maintain the pitch of their voice for opera the men were castrated when young. Almost 70% of male opera singers of the time were castrated, giving rise to the genre of castrati music.
