    Question for military historians.

I liked the movie but everything Iíve ever read about WWI says it was never quiet along the front lines. There were always explosions going on, noisy as hell. I found it a bit too unreal that the two main characters crawl thru the old front line towards the new one without hardly a sound being heard. Was there long moments of virtual silence and no explosions, especially when the front lines are being changed?

Wait! Are you implying that a movie made for entertainment may not be completely historically accurate! I shudder to think...

Especially when one the best WWI pieces of fiction and resulting movies are entitled All Quiet on the Western Front . A title intended to emphasize how rare that was.
