Don't forget you get a blessing and a kiss from your local westwind. The coolest images will be judged by westwind personally. The test will be westwind will sit outside in the midday sun when it is 42 degree Celcius, and see which Image cools him down the most. westwind.

This is Handy, my young gelding, getting started under saddle last spring, westwind. As you may judge from the layered riding attire, it was moderately chilly that afternoon, probably around -8C if my memory serves.

This was taken on Dec. 21st and the temperature dipped from -26.5C to -36.8C overnight. Those sundogs are almost always an accurate indicator of colder weather coming.

Refracted sun light off of ice crystals--which is why we only see them in cold climates where there's a high density of low elevation ice crystals.

The sun dog(s) always appear beside the sun, never above or below, and so in that regard the sun is their 'master', for they sit at the side of the sun. The exact origin of the term seems to be obscure. Some more details on the types of ice crystals and conditions that produce sun dogs at this link:

For all Members. scheherazade has come up with sun dogs. This certainly is new to me, and I'm no chicken dog. A great thing about TSF one never knows when something new will arise to educate all.

Australians in general, and even travelled Australians, have no concept of sun dogs.

We have willy willys, we have Bunyips, we have the min min lights, and we are currently breeding a brood of Fair Dinkums, these will join the other Jumbucks on top of Uluru. westwind.

Yeah mate, well spotted. I think some Members don't wait for the stone to reach the water in the well. Your Photo , image, is correct. Taken since the 4th January. And by coolest, i really meant coolest, as in Antartica. All Members who do not understand westwinds excellent English Expression, are to sit right down and study Past Participles and Present Tense. Your submission of repairing Old Glory was cool. The hailstones can still be seen. However it did not meet all the requirements of the original intent. Still, we may have to waive the requirement of "" recent "" images. What with everyone pawning their cameras over Xmas.

Do you have sun dogs in Texas? Dog gone it cobber, I know you have Yellow Roses. westwind.

Just for the record, the photo is mine (I live only 30 min from the falls) and the other image is my own original creation.

Here's a picture of how I move the hay out of the haysheds. The 800 lb bales are stacked into the haysheds with a bobcat with forks in the autumn and they are too heavy for me to handle by myself so I employ the assistance of 'Tango', my Tundra pick up truck. (I name my machinery, lol...) With a lariat looped around the bale and tied hard and fast to the hitch, I ease them out of the shed. Once they are on their sides on level ground, I cut the strings off and roll them out like large cinnamon buns and then use a hay fork to measure off portions for each horse.

Wish I was there to help you scheherazade. I can fork hay. In my memory that is. And I would be cool at the same time. The horses must be in their stables. I see no horses. Are there mice in the storage barns. We do not have Barns in Australia. As such that is. We have hay sheds. No birds? westwind.

I'm sure you would be able to help with some of the chores, westwind. The horses are in several pens ranged around the property. The horses utilize natural shelter and several of the pens have run-in sheds. I have a small insulated barn for use by one or two in an emergency and I own a lot of horse blankets, most that have never been used. I will post an aerial overview sometime soon.

There are plenty of mice hereabouts, as we have created 'edge habitat' and the hay sheds are a paradise for the wee beasties. We also have several wild predators who come by to take advantage of the situation. Here is a picture of one of the red foxes, taken from the deck of our home. The bloody things follow me around like dogs when I am doing the chores sometimes, lol, and we do not feed them, though I know for a fact that some of the neighbors do.
