Hiram (Hi) Thrap sold this mill in 1922 to Ernest Linser, who sold it to the Benbow Family. The mill utilized local redwood in the construction of the Inn. All of the moldings, beams and pillars at the Inn were crafted from Thrap Mill lumber. The Mill is located across the Eel River from the Inn and can be reached by a wonderful hiking trail. Do you know what year the Benbow Family sold the mill site and surrounding property to the state of California, creating the Benbow Lake State Recreation area?
about 15 years ago...I talked a groundkeeper (asst) into putting daffodils along the creeks on the golf course....over the years they have multiplied and every spring....we have wwaves following the creeks and creating so much color in the green of the course and the shadows of the redwood trees that line it.....I never get to see this, as I am not in Cali ususually this time of the year.....
Five miles south of where I reside.
