I have just installed Dropbox. Wish me luck.

I do not know what a URL is and I don't want to know'.

Please do not be concerned at my lack of expertise. I love challenges. One day a picture will appear here with the appropriate link to another Thread.

Just think. westwinds own private photo Thread, photos all in one place, one Thread, this one.

Hopefully if you are reading a Thread or Poste that westwind has posted I will give you a cross reference number to any relevant image in westwinds artistic photos Thread, in Art and Culture Sub- Forum.

Does this make sense to you? You probably think thatit is a long way round to have to go looking for an image.? This is all in my imagination of course until I actually master the insertion of a photo. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen. westwind.

Westwind, you have emailed me few pictures and I think you want me to attach them here for you. If I do that, that'd set a very bad precedent.

Here's a small tutorial: Reading and Posting Messages

It might be easier to use a photo sharing service like Flickr or Google and then just copy and paste the link (<cough>URL<cough>) to the photo...

He'd still have to know how to upload, in general, to do that. It seems that is what is stumping him.

I just thought that they might be easier to use as they are designed for uploading photos (which the forum isn't, specifically). I think they both have programs you can run on your PC which may web easier than using the web interface.

Oh...you're almost there WW! Let's review. "https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46946106/willysseat02.jpg" is the address I sent you. It is were the image lives on the internet...much like the street address for your house. When I copied that photo into my dropbox/public folder...the dropbox software automatically uploaded (sent it to the internet) and assigned it that address.

We now need to tell the forum software that that bunch of letters and numbers is an address for a picture...and not just text. The forum software does this by use of "tags". Tags are commands and they are framed with "[ ]" the blocky parenthesis. This lets the software know they are a command instead of text. There's one at the beginning, and one at the end with a backslash thrown in, so the software know the command is over.

    [command]stuff you want done[/command]

To display an image, we need to use the "[img]" tag. We will start by typing "[img]", then we will paste the web address of the photo we want to display, so the software knows where to get it, then close the tag with "[/img]

So to display the picture above, the full command you would type in the reply box is "[img]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46946106/willysseat02.jpg[/img... Just add a "]" at the end to get it to work.

Cool transport and I love the free range chickens wandering about.

You look to have been quite the dashing and debonnaire consort which does not surprise me, given your respectful manner to all on this forum.

    LOL...

Okay, I'm racking and sampling my raw rhubarb wine and it is 'vanity productions day' so with apologies to westwind, I post these two images of myself which I believe capture the essence of who I am to date, both taken within the last 24 months.

This one is my casual, farm girl look.

This is my 'negotiating committee' look, which I shall be donning for work this week.

Unlike MacGyver, I cannot cultivate a tan. I turn into a lobster with freckles and too much sun and I begin to peel. I am well suited to being a 'night stalker' (stocker), lol...

Hang on. I thought you were older than me. You look the same age as me. I'm 36. I thought you'd have that grandmotherly look. Damnit I wanna move to YUKON! Apparently the air is much friendlier to women up there.

OK, Westwind...I'd like you to try to post one. Here is the address of a photo of me, bald as a cue ball, with ears that could pick up radio from Russia. "https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46946106/MacAt2.jpg". Just copy the address, and put "[img]" tags around it. If you are successful, I'll take you out for ice cream....if your wife allows it.

For that delightful remark I would gift you with a whole bottle of rhubarb wine. I am often mistaken for being considerably younger than my calender years, the gift of genetics on my maternal side and undoubtedly something to do with 'Yukon: The Magic and the Mystery', our tourism slogan for many years.

I also do a fantastic reverse French Braid, an art learned from show grooming horses for the ring and devilishly challenging to do for oneself, lol.

(No comments about horse's posteriors now, Mac.)

Aw, Mac....you were a precious little thing, ears and all. Where was that taken? What are the birds?

    An intelligent response, lol....

Later all. My new boss is treating hubby and I to dinner at one of the finer eating establishments and I believe they have a 10 oz. New York Steak with veggies and sweet potato fries with my name on it. After working outdoors this afternoon in -25C I could eat a horse and chase the rider....

My dad used to live in Lake City. When I visited him we would go to gainesville quite often. He sometimes would ride his horse there, when he went alone of course, then fall asleep on his way back and luckily the horse knew how to get home lol.

OPPS.!!!. Nice Pic, nice Family. I don't think the birds are real though. Mitch, where is the magic icon that places the picture instead of the text in the poste??

    I'm missing something here. westwind.

    Okay westwind.

Here's how you fix the above.

Hit the edit button on your post #27 and remove only the quotation marks and any spaces between.

    [img]thelinkgoeshere[/img]

    Then hit save.

    You will have your picture.

I was almost sure when I saw that Mac had posted with quotation marks that you would dutifully copy them too but I did not want to intervene.

    Now I have.

    This WILL work westwind.

Those edits should have worked, if you had done it like that to begin with, but as the URL had already been converted to a hotlink (notice it is underlined) it won't work unless you delete the line and start again. If you copy the line directly from Seaqypsy's post above, into your post, it should work.

Or alternatively you can do it just clicking buttons:

    Click the image button:

    Click the "From URL" tab:

When you are looking at the URL tab, paste in the address of the picture and uncheck the box below:

Click the OK button at the bottom of the URL tab, and it is done!

FYI, SpeedFreek, the method you show has not been working in Firefox for me for the longest time though it works with Internet Explorer.

Thanks for pointing out that the URL had been converted to a hotlink. I did indeed miss that.

I SO want westwind to have the satisfaction of mastering the art of posting pictures and as stated above, the insert image link does not work in all browsers at half the forums I am on and it can be most confusing if you are learning and frustrating even if you understand the reasons.

MacGyver showed us how to use the [img]....[/img] tags and that has greatly helped my cause.

Sorry to disappoint you westwind, by missing that hotlink, but you are that close to getting the job done, sir. Hang in there!

Lets all breathe a sigh of relief. All help and information was useful. Together we did it by perseverence. Now is the time to celebrate. Joan ( my good wife ) will bring the oxygen bottles and we will take up MacGyver1968 s offer of free ice-cream. westwind.

Another suggestion is that you should be using Standard editor rather than full fledged WYSIWYG editor.
It's under general settings. The full editor will not allow you to see all the tags, the standard editor will show it all. It really helps to be able to see everything.

Attributed to Lao-tzu (c 604-c 531 bc), founder of Taoism.
A journey of a thousand miles began with a single step.
It delights me to see you have taken the first step, westwind, and the collaborative effort was likewise most pleasing to observe.

More Photos. This is my second attempt to posting images to this thread. I am following all the helpful hints given. Do not answer this Poste as yet. This is work in process. All will be well, and remember, it is good for westwind to tax his brain and be rewarded for success. Step one, get the New Poste page.

I'm just guessing here, but everything that I upload to Picassa is private unless I make the folder accessible for public viewing.

Has Mac walked you through that step, westwind?

Here is the link to show you how to tell if your file is private or shared.

    https://www.dropbox.com/help/140/en

Here is the link in dropbox about how to do it.

    https://www.dropbox.com/help/19/en

Now I really have to get going.

Catch you all on the morrow.

Perhaps that may be the problem.

There is also an extra period after jpg, but those are not the only problems. I tried fixing it and still get Error 404.

That dropbox folder is from my account. We need to figure out what yours is, WW.

"https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46946106/" is the address of my dropbox folder online....you should have one too...just with a different number. Just go to your dropbox folder on your hard drive, and right click on any image that has the green check on it...and click "copy public link".

File was too large to send. 8.5 MB. westwind.

Thanks anyway, appreciated, I understand now that selecting single entities, ( pictures ), is the way to go to have them appear in Poste. Mine were several multi-stacked. Would have needed unstaking to view.

If you look in my Practicing Thread you will notice I've settled on the space saving TSF Mode of inserting pictures. This is fine for the moment, I'm cool about this. Graphs are like complicated food poisoning to my self-esteem, utterly destroys my comprehension. Anything in a column leaves me brain dead for weeks. Apologising to MacGyver1968 here, its not your fault Mitch, just a word of advice, what sometimes is perceived as intelligence is just wind, and a soothing rub on the back is much better.

Lets summerise: I love you all and you are stuck with that. westwind.

I cannot endorse the previous post for I am an temperate woman yet am of the opinion that a modest use of alcohol is an aid to the digestion and circulatory systems, presently enjoying a glass of 2010 Argentinian Malbec by the house of Rothschild.

We're coming, we're coming, our brave little band
On the right side of temperance we do take our stand
We don't use tobacco, because we do think
The people who use it are likely to drink

Away, away with rum by gum, with rum by gum, with rum by gum
Away, away with rum by gum, the song of the temperance union

We never eat fruit cake because it has rum
And one little taste turns a man to a bum
Oh, can you imagine a sorrier sight
Than a man eating fruit cake until he gets tight

We never eat cookies because they have yeast
And one little bite turns a man to a beast
Oh, can you imagine a sadder disgrace
Than a man in the gutter with crumbs on his face

    .....etc...
    one helluva drinking song
    ...............
can a son ever repay a mothers love
do we not all heve regrets
    when we were dismissive
    when we were short tempered
when we didn't share their enthusiams
when we failed to make that birthday or holiday call
sitting there at her funeral, i was numbed by memories so thick you could almost touch them
the service ended, and I sat immobile as everyone else departed
and still i sat watching her lying in that box
remembering the good, and admonishing myself for all that i could have done but didn't
all I could have said, but didn't
    ...........
we had a bond beyond that of my brothers
years later, my older brother said: "Mom always loved you best"
and I responded, "look at me John, who wouldn't?"

Well they eliminated beer goggles so the odds of them getting kissed by anyone at all just got drastically reduced. I don't think macgyver would even go for that.

    Let's analyz this.
The one to the immediate left of mid picture center looks like Charlie Chaplin clean-shaven.
To the right... is that huge glob her face her lips or is her tongue hanging out? No... I guess that's her chin...

Left of seated center looks like she doesn't agree with the sign or is really ready for sober smooching. Her lips are already pursed. Heavily.

To the right of seated center looks like Rob Schneider in drag.

I like Charlie Chaplan, and the skinny one at the front. Then again I have no teeth, can't hear a word that anyone utters, I've been gelded, and can no longer run to catch anyone. And you know what they say, buggers can't be tossers. westwind.

You got that right sister....I wouldn't tap that with Neverfly's "member" even if I was mad at him.

I had an artistic photo to share...but it didn't come out. My buddy called me and asked if I wanted to go get a beer at the Lakewood Landing (advertised as a upscale dive! and a place that Jack Ruby (the guy that shot Lee Harvey Oswald) used to hang out) We went out on the patio, so we could smoke, and I looked down and noticed he was wearing grandpa style house shoes to the bar.

We all had a good laugh...because these are the shoes a man wears to the bar when he has a 26 year old hot Chinese girlfriend that loves sex, loves to cook, makes $100k, and buy him dorky house shoes. Not a single fu@k was given that night.

WW...here are some of the pics of my great grandmother's chest of drawer I refinished. When I started, the top was cracked in half, and so warped that one part stood 1/2" above the other...and the finish was black as coal, with alligator scales.

    the work in progress

    the finished product

I love how you can now see the beautiful grain of the wood...and look at that top...straight as an arrow.

For MacGyver1968. Ships Bell Time Machine was given to my Irish Brother-in-law many many years ago. He was a Petty Officer in the Merchant Navy. He still lives. Weather(sic) the Ships Time Machine still lives will be a question I must ask him. "" Bell?? Irrah Lad, and what Bell might that be??"". westwind.

Well, not today qfu, just a little bit of sub-tropical weather making its way south-east from the northern indian ocean region. Has brought Humidity of course, unusual for early Summer in our region, Melbourne, Australia. Not good for my grape-vines. ( a whole fence full on the side of the house ). Or for me. I think I have descended from the Innuit people.

Yes, the sky's in our State of Victoria, named after Queen Victoria, are blue often throughout the year, no snow in Melbourne. We are located on the south-east corner of Australia, so a little bit of Maritine (sic ) sea climate has its affects. During Summer we wait in terror for the Hot Winds that emminate in Central Australia and, under the inflence of a High Pressure System, bear down on Victoria, often with disasterous consequences. ( Summer Bush Fires, often taking many lives and destroying vast tracts of the Countryside ).

Maybe a bit like Calafornia.? Thanks for your Poste. westwind.

    There are more inscriptions.

Very keen when young to make up inscriptions. Philosophy was an inherited trait. ( Grandfather trait, another of my Family I didn't get to know ).

Anyhow, my signature gives me away.

    bbbigbuddy.jpgA westwind Image.

This is westwinds , ( and Mrs. westwinds ), car.

It will do 180 klms/hour on lonely Country Roads.

    Cannot reveal other data.

Reason being Detroit Design Engineers would never let up offering big money for performance specifications. westwind.
