Yes, You missed me last time, remember you all were on the Piss after lunch that day,
Couldn't wait to take the Repair Track Bus to the Depot.
I remember, one of your mates urinated on me but didn't notice that I needed Replacing.

Still, the concrete jobs next to me have been taking much of the Load...and with the new ballast rammed in
I've hardly noticed the Mainliners through the day. So bloody fast these days.
The Night Freights are slower and they seem to be seeking me out, I'm loose on the Spikes now.

I've taken my share of the Load. These 30 years. Missed me last time you see.
Ballast almost covering me up. Still its been nice here, cows grazing along the fence line.
Wild Flowers on the Line reserve. You can hear them coming you know, the trains I mean,
    Not the cows.

First there's the suggestion of a humming, not loud, that comes later, but a soft
Movement, free of any suggestion of vibration. The Hum grows in volume, to a whisper
And the suggestion of movement a long way away. But you cannot hold back the hammering crash
Of the 4--6--4 flying as only the Scotsman can Fly, barely touching metal to metal.

Back to the Signal Stoppage last night. Red Lamp. Breakdown on the Up line. Held while They shunt
The Line clear. And you wouldn't believe what happened. The Fireman lighting up a smoke,
Then pissing on me. A million sleeping sleepers, and he chooses me to piss on.

Let us not kill this Thread just because, apparently, a nut came loose and threatened to derail the Train. Poetry, or Story telling, is ancient. Part of the heritage of the human condition. Now, you may be puzzled or uninterested in my Poem/Story telling of this Thread, but for the sake of being joyous try and get an inspiration of some kind from it. It it leaves you completely unmoved then you are either dead or I am. This type of communication has been used to relate historical happenings, to instruct new generations in how to think, act, and do.

Now, I realise this is a Science Forum and has probably only attracted Left sided/ Right sided brain people, mainly those without an imaginative bone in their body, but try really hard to feel emotion, feel some manner of communication, otherwise your Gods will desert you, and you will never get that brainwave that will earn you acclaim in scientific circles. Go dance in your local Performing Arts Centre. Take some time off and gather daffodils. Make up a spray/bunch of the lovliest flowers in bloom. and give them to your Mother/ Aunt/ Grandmother.Just think outside the circle, right angled triangle, double the length of the hypothenuous and divide it by Pi times the square root of 23. Can you do that? westwind.

The "" New Flying Scotsman "" Express Train From Kings Cross Station is currently taking 4.62 HRS ( average over ssix days), to arrive at Edinbourgh. The wooden sleeper that needed replacing is traversed by the train 1.24 HRS after leaving Kings Cross Station. ( average time ). The Express travels at 116 MPH ( AVERAGE ).

Question? (a) Name the town nearest the Sleeper.

(b). What colour is the Conductors eyes? Clue: Elvis had the same colour eyes.

westwind will give you three smilies metricons if you answer both Questions correctly. westwind.

    a) The name of the town is Immaterial

    b) Elvis's eyes were for all intents white, the same color of the eyes on the conductor's potato

Holly crap you've got trains that go 116mph?

I think most Americans would rather be stuck in traffic, doing their best to conjure the F-word with just a look to cars left and right.

    (English geography....hmmm...eyeballs map)

Somewhere near Liecester....or Nottingham (thinks of "Romneyhood" joke)?

For thropo. So close. In fact you are going on the short list. Indian Nationals work almost exclusively for Brit Rail, strange look white eyes. You might like to revise and edit this part of your answer, but your've got two penalties. westwind.

Well Done Lynx Fox, closest so far. Shrairiff of Nottingham had all the forest chopped down trying to flush out robin hood. That left space for grazng a few dairy cows. And in the Countryside too. You may very well end up being near the money, just a weeney bit far north, the New Flying Scotsman train just hasn;t reached top cruising speed to enable you to ping the Maths. So that is another clue, allow 97 MPH from Kings Cross station to the exact location of the Sleeper. westwind

Two penalties? Am I red carded?

You didn't say the eyes were the ones Elvis was born with, he could have had his own favorite potato.

The sleeper is probably in Velo City. A lot of fast trains run through there.

I'm having trouble staying on the rails here, let alone the Sleepers. Yep, we are sure going fast. The night is cool with no moon. Signal Lights are go all the way and we are beating against the blackness, pushing a hole to hell for this train. The red glow from the fire box is burning with updraft full on and old kelly on the throttle lever is using steam like the devil is after him. There are lights ahead rushing at us but the gate man has seen us coming, the Kettering Gates, we coiled the Staff in for the next Section and vanished into the blackness, some turned restlessly in their beds remembering gates that had been smashed into matches. Got a match Kelly? Kelly nodded, not hearing, but knowing. westwind.

Aye and a bit of mackerel, settler rack and down Ran it down by the home and I flew Well, I slapped me and I flopped it down in the shade And I cried, cried, cried
The fear a fallen down had taken, never back the raiseAnd then cried Mary and took out wi' your ClaymoreRight outta a' pocket, I ran down, down the mountainsideBack on Battlin the fiery horde that was falling around the feet
“Never”, he cried, “Never shall ye get me alive Ye rotten hound of the burnie crew”Well, I snatched fer the blade and a Claymore cut and thrustAnd I fell down before him 'round his feet, aye
A roar, he criedFrom the bottom of his heartThat I would nay fall but as deadDead as I can by a' feet, d'ya ken?And the wind cried Mary

Well Well--- I "knew not"" your self, really. But then...a Stargazer might have illuminated my goodself to the fact that versitaler deafness is not one of your failings. You are a tricky one MeteorWayne, maybe with a little Starshine in your darkest Gaze. This Poste sounds very ""Waiting for Goddard "" or maybe a splash of Joyce. Balls, bearing from a claymore, are soundless in the racket of the detonating one directional explosive. Are through you and gone to be collected years later by one-legged children. How can I now stir the ignorance that rushs throughThe Science Forum in the guise of complete knowledge? You have just added a lifetime of pleasure to all my present moments in which I dwell, this prose I will use ( If I may ), when the total Blackness of not being slowly closes my eyes to see never no more. The Black Hole concept in being removes all seeing from the now dead. Complete and utter blackness. That;s all. No conscious of anything, No memories or dreams to disturb the complete and utter nothiness of the Deepest Black. Held there for eons, without existance, until a call from some Creation somewhere returns this sleeping dead to the torture of an animated existance.

Thank you MeteorWayne for restoring some respect and wonderment to the inner thoughts of a troubled soul. westwind.
