Thread: homo erectus dispersion

    My understanding: homo erectus was the first human specie to get out of Africa. Its range was as far as Indonesia. How did they get from mainland Asia to Indonesia, since they had (as far as I know) no means of sea travel?

    One of the key things that aided in the dispersal was the climate. At the time that Homo erectus was dispersing we were starting into the pleistocene and so the cooling global temperatures meant a lot more water was locked up in ice caps. Thus many more land bridges than currently exist making it much easier to disperse to Island archipelagos like Indonesia
