So for who don't know, at one point Harold14370 and some other people had a bit of a tiff on the forums and Harold14370 started causing some mayhem. For some reason my password had expired and I couldn't come on and mediate properly. I asked him multiple times to please send me a password reset email, but he just never responded. He then abandoned the forum and it eventually went to ruin with no admin around.

So having heard that the forum has been brought back, I have returned and removed Harold14370's privileges and banned him for what he did.

It is kind of sad, because Harold was one of the people I always was looking up to ever since I came here in 2007 and he served the site in many ways for a long time. The way it degenerated was very disappointing indeed.

I do still wish Harold all the best and I want to thank him for what he meant to the forum for years.

It is very unfortunate indeed that it has come to this.

    Thanks!

PS: Thanks to @Geordief for letting my know about the forum coming back!

So that's what it was all about. I assume then that he was in control for a lot of the time, what is the status of the forum now then? Who is the admin and who maintains it? It is good that it can return once again. I also remember Harold back in the day, he was a highly informative and patient member and it is a shame it had to come to this, but anyway onwards to the future! Thanks KALSTER for all your positive enthusiasm to the site and informing everyone.

Kalster is the admin now but he doesn't have full permission to work on the site as he is not the owner and the owner is practically impossible to contact . It is a bit of a mystery. In my opinion the owner of this site is a very poor owner. It would be better if he was to sell to someone who ,as they say did give a s**t.

I have promoted Markus Hanke to Admin as well.

I am just so happy this site is up
it is kind of like my chat room
It frankly is archaic in many ways but it is spot on and current

so you talk to people as they are on and debate and discuss

    Facebook doesn't offer me that

    And this site.

well I am not a science person....I am an arts person, but I learn from you.....though I probably contribute little to this forum.....but I sure have missed it!

Maybe the photo was too large or the wrong format. That is the kind of problem I encounter (on other sites).

I liked Harold. Sorry to see him go. Although I didn't pay that much attention to him I got the feeling he slowly became corrupted with power. Like the kid nobody wants on their team but who owned the ball, that kind of power.

I may be hallucinating but did he not turn theist-extraordinaire and hate on stuff science stood for? I really don't feel comfortable commenting on this, but since it meant the end of this forum, I will accept it.

He threw a tantrum and demoted a mod who moderated his posts in a politics discussion. He seemed to think he was above the rules. When people protested he went full Colonel Kurtz...

Could he return as a mod and not as an admin? Or even just as a member?

He couldn't do any harm ,could he ? (if he wanted to take part)

I would vote no on this. His abuse of power and freak out was unforgivable. If we were to open ourselves up to this sort of leniency then to be fair we would have to offer the chance to return to many people who were brilliant in one subject but reprehensible in other ways.

I agree, he was good with the engineering topics, but out side of thst he let his political and religious feeling rule, and did nto like anyone questioning them

But just as a member would it be OK ? (not that I suppose he would want to but I didn't know him too well)

To be honest, I think the situation he created removed any possibility of him returning. Especially given thst his attitude at the end was he was god and infallible

I think that letting him return after such a fiasco would be opening a door that we don't want to open. We shouldn't be lenient on him just because he was good at engineering. That is akin to people who skirt actual legal punishment for their crimes because they have a skill that's useful or a ton of money.

And lets be honest if he really desired to come back he would just create a sockpuppet and pretend to be someone new. Many former users have done the same to varying degrees of success. Some manage to pull their shit together and become better members as their sock than as their original account (although I've only seen this done once).

Anywhere else on the Internet something much less than what he did would be an instant and permanent ban, including any alts and sock puppets they may create.

I can understand that. I post on a little privateish forum in Australia. I have known these people for nigh on 17 years. Met quite a few in RL. We talk about all sorts.
