    What terrible news!

Wayne was an inspiration and source of knowledge to many over many years, as is evident from the obituary guest book and the kind words and shock expressed all over the internet since his passing. He was a valuable member of our forum and served as a capable and respected moderator. He will be missed by all.

My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Thank you Wayne. We won't forget you.

In the virtual realm of forums even as in the three dimmensional, the passing of a spirited intellect is a great loss.

Though I did not know Wayne personally, I extend my sympathies to those who were close to him.

Condolences to Wayne's family, I learned a thing or two from his wisdom, he was always a polite member with lots of respect and patience for everyone.

Waynes passing along with a friend on xbox keeps reminding me of our mortality, cherish every moment as they come because they will never happen again. Thanks for your time with us Wayne and sharing your wisdom and knowledge.

    Peace.

That took me aback. I pictured Wayne as somewhat younger, just based on his lively persona here on the forum.

I'm going to go out this weekend. at night, weather permitting and sit until I've seen at least three meteors burn up. I can't think of any more appropriate tribute.

He was nice, and never did bite.
It is sad news to hear that he died.

    Farewell Wayne.

I only ever knew Wayne on-line, although he had invited me to stay over at this place if I were ever in his neck of the woods. He was a moderator over at the space.com forums (now defunct) when I joined there, many years ago, and we seemed to hit it off right from the beginning. When that forum was closed down, Wayne asked me where I was mainly posting now, so I told him about this forum and he followed me here.

So it only seemed appropriate, when earlier this year there was a vote here for new moderators, that Wayne should be one of them, which was why I put in that last minute vote for him in order to get a tie between him and John and get him back into a position I knew he would thrive in.

He was a real hands on amateur astronomer and meteorologist, and made a significant contribution in his field (he was often outside!). He was a great believer in bringing science to the masses and will be sorely missed.

RIP MeteorWayne. I respected you. Liked you? Yes, you could say that. I sensed a fair and intelligent man at work and at play on The Science Forum. Now where do I go with my wooden spoon? westwind.

It's times like this I wish I had something profound to say.

I only knew the man from the forums, but you can tell a lot about a person from the way they speak to others. He seemed very genuine, far more intelligent than I, and truly dedicated to disseminating his knowledge. You will be missed, Wayne. I'm sorry I didn't get to know you better.

I had multiple lively conversations with Wayne. I will miss him.

My sincere condolences to all who knew him.
Wayne greeted me on this website with helpful, clear answers and an understated warmth. A genuinely good and intelligent man.
Never pictured him being of senior age, he seemed to posses a spark of youthfulness. He was very switched on.
His words are imortalised here, leaving a legacy that has real value, i'm sure his legacy stretches far beyond his writtings.
May his soul fly free imortaly.

I can't believe it. I joined TSF about the time Wayne joined, I didn't know him, but I did sorta know MeteorWayne, I was wondering where that guy was. Damn it. Goodbye Wayne, you were a stranger to me.

When I registered a while back under a different profile ( sorry Linx ), MW first came off as quick-to-judge, which I thought a bad attribute... but I realized that was a terrible misjudgment on my part as I saw more of his posts (what could I expect from a moderator dealing with cranks?). Though I found myself in the wrong, I didn't really give it much thought until now.

And I just found out ... just now seeing this thread in the latest posts column I sort of regret my chat box comment from the other day: "Is it me? Or has the forum been somewhat dead recently?" I didn't know MW passed, but it seems the occurrence was reflected in the forum's inactivity at the time. I barely know this man online, much less personally. But he seems to have been an awesome person from what I'm reading.

As always, I'm being overly lengthy and complex in my monologue so I'll stop here. Comfort to your family, and rest in peace Wayne.

I have had many differences of opinion with MeteorWayne in this forum.
But with time I learned that MeteorWayne, was a person of pure heart and love. And what impressed me the most was, he was a protector of those things.
I hope he knew the deep respect I had for him.

MeteorWayne always lived in the back of my mind. And I learned to feel, that he was here to protect, those things that are most important to us all.

Tonight all those stars up there, are just for you MeteorWayne.

The words, "faith, hope and love, are some good things he gave us, and the greatest is love", have always meant something to me. But it was from being around him, that I learned what those words actually mean. (And that's the 1,000% truth.)

I have some things I need to do. This ones for you MeteorWayne.

    Chad.

I didn't even see Mike's post. I do work in stream monitoring. In all likelihood, that picture will be me in 30 years.

Man, I wish I had gotten a chance to speak with this guy more. He sounds like he was a really cool guy.
