Ever heard a woman when she has a word with an 's' in it, she makes like a 'sss' noise. Let me try and find it on the net somewhere.
For instance if I say 'silly', its just that, yet i've heard some girls go 'ssss', sort of like a whistle noise, and the 's' lasts longer than it does when men use that letter.

Don't you think I deserve a little more respect than calling me vain or stupid? I assure you, my question is all in honesty and innocence. I never have a hidden agenda. I'm an honest guy .
EDIT: I've heard girls where I live do it, and around the country, this may not be the best example, but I remembered that 's' noise when I watched this:
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/434241
View this loaded, play the flash and listen for Jill (the girl with the blue clothes, when she makes an 's'). I've never encountered a man who does that with an 's'.
In that movie, Jill makes the 'sss' noise in her first few sentences where she goes on about hide and seek.
PS The movie is a parody of Resident Evil, and is a continuation of the previous parody, so you won't get why a raccoon bursts out of her chest at the load screen. _________________ "There is no knowledge, that is not power" - Ralph Waldo Emerson. |

Um, I still have no idea what you're talking about. Well, let me articulate... I did hear the girl elongate some of her S's. But I heard the guys do it just as often. Furthermore, I didn't hear any S whistling from the girl, whereas I definitely heard some from the guy.
The only example in real life I can think of an accent where S is overenunciated is the Valley girl dialect in the states. And, yes, this is a speech pattern which is exhibited typically by girls, but the overenunciated S is just an instance of the general habit of exaggerating sounds and syllabbles.
Ssssssssso, like, what EVarrrrrrrrrrrrrr. |

The 'sssss' sound you're describing could be a slow puncture. _________________ "First we build the tools, then they build us" - Marshall McLuhan. |

Now that is quite a possibility considering the amount of pricks a woman has to put up with in her lifetime
(Sorry, couldn't resist )
Perhaps that's why women shrink as they get older and everything gets that deflated look? _________________ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Whatever it is, this thread is not social science..
Anyway I think this is just a feature of a certain UK accent of English. I do know what you refer to and yea it sounds kinda weird, but I've never heard that sound beside UK English. |

Is he talking about a lisp? Thats what it sounds like to me. similiar to people who say their R's as W's....but the type with elongated S's.
This isn't something characteristic of just women though, and not all women have it. In fact it's quite rare i think, but I have known people to have had it. _________________ Chance favours the prepared mind. |
