Im just curious to see extrapolations and conjectures, thoughts and analysis
Fictional Scenario:
Lets say the US government is controled by people inspired by total Fascism(just pretend) or by China(totalitarian w capitalism), and that FEMA camps can hold millions of people and are meant for god knows what in addition to detaining insurgents, freedom-fighters and people on political watch lists. So your average nightmare scenario. The question is could they pull it off in your opinion?
Heres the Scenario's ouverture:
A Pandemic occurs(ex: Avian Flu), the News says hospitals are overcrowded but vaccines(and Food) might soon be available in emergency Medial Camps(FEMA camps). Then there's speculation in the news the Pandemic might be a terrorist attack and the phone lines are being overused. Then Martial Law is declared and phone lines(and cellphones) go out.
a) What would happen in you opinion?
b) If during a curfew, US troops(or Blackwater security guards) would go at night in a neighbours house some distance away so you cant see and arnet sure and some shot were heard, would people start shooting at US troops or wonder what was going on and stay in their houses not to catch the disease?
c) Would people organize into militias given the atomisation/individualistic nature of society and the fear of the pandemic? |

Ice; You might want to look up GWB, executive order # 12919, 'National Emergency' signed 2006. This EO was written to address emergencies such as Katrina, when the Sate (La) failed to request assistance after several attempts by the Federal Government, to gain permission. Even though every incoming government 'voids' the previous EO, with only a few lasting two or more administrations, this one will be voided. Until any EO is enacted or some one or group has a reason to test in the courts, its a virtual worst case scenario, for a potential problem. There are such scenarios for every conceivable problem any government can imagine, though not usually assisted with an executive order...
I would think *States* would have to be agreeable, if ever such an order was to take force. Under the Constitution the military can not be used against any state or citizen of the US. Since all branches of the US political system and the Military (all branches) take an oath to uphold that Constitution, it would take more than a few of any one to gain or maintain power or control over the rest.
Would the people fight, no I don't think so. Under some severe scenario I suppose our constitution could become meaningless. Even those that wrote it knew, acceptance of law was vital to any free society... |
