I know this is going to create a huge debate so to keep it simple, i've added a poll. _________________ The earth is round??? Don't be stupid, everyone knows its square! |

Seeing as how animals who have live-births evolved after animals who lay eggs, I'm gonna say egg.
Seeing as how in evolution there is no clear cut where we can say "This was the very first modern chicken" since the changes are so gradual, the chicken probably evolved from other egg-laying animals and the egg might have been pretty much unchanged in comparison to the animal that was laying it over the hundreds of thousands of years. _________________ Click this link to see the video that convinced me of evolution.

Well the shelled egg was a major evolutionary invention that allowed for the evolution of reptiles, before that all animals had to lay eggs in the water. |

it's funny really how a question that in philosophy is the epithome of unresolvability becomes a rather easy (one would almost say banal) question when framed in biological terms _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

I like ordering chicken and eggs at the local Huddle House and then seeing which comes first.
Well, in the ornithology classes I've taken, along with biology, prehistory, natural history, and geology classes, the egg came first. _________________ My avatar looks like a vagina! |

Bacterium came frist, eggs where a much later concept so if you go for the loop theory the chiken wins but I voted egg for the obvious the chiken egg came before the chicken _________________ In the study of life in todays socity there are sevral truth we must face the folowing are the ones I have manged to come to terms with:
1. You will probably end up doing something related to Cancer, Aids, or some other dieases that incovinces the genral public
2. In order to make money you either will be doing the afore mentioned research because that is where all the free grant money is, working for a company, or having to teach people some of whom really should not be there
3. You cannot take up reserach biologist as a hobby inless you have another substancial form of income |

No contest - egg.
But why not ask Adam and Eve? Or did they come after the chicken? |

Egg and chicken are the same entity. They merely represent a different timepoint in the ontogeny.
Hence the opening post question is invalid. _________________ “A scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections, - a mere heart of stone.” |

| Say we have two birds, they are the same species but with some genetic mutations that make them slightly different or give them advantages. When they hop on one foot and do the bad thing they create a mix of genes which creates the first chicken (albeit in egg form). For this reason I shall say the chicken comes first as the egg would be different from any eggs of the new hybrid mutant bird we came to label 'The Chicken'. |

Following a lengthy discussion with Tenacity on the subject - I was originally pro-egg - I have to concede that the chicken is the more likely answer. Shame _________________ Go see the psychiatrist, I don't like the psychiatrist, but you need a psychiatrist, f*** the psychiatrist!!! |
