This thread intends to collate a number of useful web sites for anyone who wants an overview on selected topics. It is a closed thread, which I intend to update as and when I see links from posts in this forum that look useful to me.

If anyone knows of links that aren't included yet, please PM me, and I'll see what I can do. -- MR

(btw, if this entry becomes too random and requires some structure, feel free to post me your suggestions on how to organise this sticky better)

A number of textbooks suitable as an introduction to :
historical geology : Introductory Historical Geology Textbook
geochemistry : White's online text on Geochemistry

A few links on radio-isotopes and their usage in radiometric dating :
Radiometric dating
Radiometric dating - a Christian perspective

A nice summary on sedimentary environments, and not too technical :
Depositional Sedimentary Environments, with Classification Charts.
If you feel like it, you can also peruse Folk's classic textbook on Petrology of the Sedimentary Rocks

Info on recent earthquakes on Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days and volcanic activity on SI / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report.
For those interested in basalts, Basaltic Volcanism of the Terrestrial Planets may be of interest

In the full knowledge that I'm on politically more volatile territory here, a few resources pertinent to the global warming debate :
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Climate myths: Assessing the evidence
The Great Global Warming Swindle
Climate change: A guide for the perplexed
Interested in the ice cover at the poles ? Cryosphere Today may interest you.

We also get the occasional creationist who deliberately or through ignorance confuses the definitions of fact and theory in science - the distinction is already in the public domain for so long that even Wikipedia has an entry on the subject : Evolution as theory and fact
