Here's a little demonstration video I made recently crushing a steel drum with air pressure.

let me know what you think as feedback is much appreciated = )
I'm new to the forum but I'll be doing physics for undergrad and this place looks pretty interesting/useful!
I hoe I posted in the right subforum? |

Welcome to the forum!
I'm relatively new m'self.
Perhaps you could have posted it in the physics or chemistry section?

The video was quite...interesting. I never did do that experiment (with the can); I never did Chem 1...I jumped straight to AP. Oh well. Crushing a steel drum...wow. _________________ Whence comes this logic: no evidence = false?

| I think I remember seeing Professor Irwin Corey do something like that on the old Steve Allen show. That will give you a clue how old I am. |

it's just a large version of a standard collapse test that is often carried out on food cans
as you may (or may not) know, food cans get filled, sealed and then go through an in-the-can cooking process
on cooling you don't want to find that the can has collapsed, so the can wall needs to be strong enough to withstand a mild underpressure inside
that's why a food can has beaded walls - it strengthens the can wall against collapse (or did you think it was mere decoration ?)
btw i notice your big can did not have such wall reinforcements _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,
