A new book has just been published called "Inside the human genome : A case for non-intelligent design."
This is reviewed by New Scientist.

I quote from the review.
"Lesch-Nyhan syndrome causes compulsive self-mutilation. Children eat their lips or fingers, and stab their faces with sharp objects. They feel the pain, but they cannot stop themselves. Why would a loving, all-powerful creator allow anyone to be born with such an awful disease?"
There is a lot more. The author points out that the human genome is a mess. A big chunk is made up of useless or damaging parasitic DNA. Tens of thousands of genetic diseases stuff up the lives of innocent people. The whole thing is incompatible with intelligent design.
Is this proof of the non-existence of a loving, powerful creator God? Proof that intelligent design is just a bunch of nonsense words? |

Why should the intelligent design not have been carried out by a sadistic God? If God were a sadist then the human genome would be suggestive evidence for his existence.
All you have is a counter argument for Intelligent Design as posited by fundamentalists, not (lower case) intelligent design as a general concept.

imo im not aware of evidence of "divine intervention or planning" in either direction, not even for sadistic purposes, some genes help, others have no function or are unused relics, others are detrimental. |

| icewendigo has a good point. The botched genome smacks more of random mutations and random interference by microorganisms, than any direct design by either benign or sadistic deity. |

Yes, but it hardly conclusive for any of these viewpoints. Which is why it is best not to address the issues of deities with the methodology of science, since the latter deliberately ignores the possibility of the supernatural.

Yes.
Ophiolites malign designer idea is beyond the limits of what I would call intellegent design.
