I am not meaning to cause hurt feeling.

I'm just wondering whether this site could have a more scientific theme. The content is great but I feel as though the site is a little bit bland. Embarassed

Sorry if I hurt the decorator's feelings.

I stopped paying attention to the Astronomy section when I realized it's dominated by a bunch of detached philosophers and religious nuts.

Yet another who elevates the ego by regarding everyone else as inferior

mmm.....seems to be a growing epidemic

Everybody else doesn't include detached philosophers and religious nuts. Everybody else is normal people, the Astronomy section comprises of "not" normal people. I don't know what that has to do with me being better. I never claimed I was normal myself.

And what's your definition of 'normal'?

I'd love to know consider you regard philosophers and theists as abnormal, everyone else as normal, except everyone on the astronomy section who is apparently abnormal

And then you state that you do not consider yourself to be 'normal' therefore you must be abnormal.

fascinating logic there!

Which site exactly?

Do you mean the whole site? Or just certain sections?

Considering the titles of the sections are for example physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, earth science etc and the majority deal with science and invite scientific discussions i wonder quite how much more scientific you want this place to be?

The sections are there for a broad scope of science.

The scientific quality of the posts depend on the posters, such as your good self.
So perhaps instead of complaining you could share some of your 'scientific' ideas and knowledge in the scientific sections?

I respect philosophers and religion. I do not respect wack job philosophers and religious nuts, especially when they shouldn't be posting in the Astronomy section. Their interests should go in to Religion and the Philosophical Discussion.

I'm tired of the what's normal argument. Normal is what is for the mass media to hand to the public. To be abnormal is to engage in esoteric subjects. And please don't bring up Esotericism, I meant esoteric as in an unusual interest.

Sounds to me like someone who believes what the media dish up to the masses is a good definition of normal is the wacko as well as gullible and probably ignorant.

Do you know what esoteric means?

Selene, please take this discussion somewhere else.

As moderators/admins we try to keep a high standard on this forum, but in practise it's not easy. Things that clearly have nothing to do with science (metaphysical stuff) end up in the pseudoscience section (or religion/philosophy when appropriate), but there's a big grey zone that's difficult to manage. You can always pm us when you spot something that's out of place.

Btw I think Skiyk didn't talk about the content but the graphics of the website Wink

I was going to post:

I think vBulletin themes are supposed to look like vomit.

http://spuriousmonkey.com/wiki/index.php?n=Main.VBulletin

But then I looked up the Faq and found out it this forum is running on phpbb2.

I thought the phpbb people prefered that you don't remove their reference on the bottom of the first page out of courtesy for providing free software.

As for a theme. There is only one good theme for phpbb2. And that is subOracle.

Sorry if I wasn't specific. I merely meant that a picture here and there may make it seem more appealing. The content on this site is good.
