I thought I would start a thread in here since it doesn't seem to be visited as much as some of the other sections. My question is: what exactly would one need to do to start a new small business in the US? Besides the obvious of having a business plan, what legally would one have to do?

Check for possible licenses you may require, the education needed for a certain occupation, for examples.

the ideal way to enter the business world is to buy an active business. in urban areas you will find virtually any business concept.

the hardest are in food and beverages. many folks they can do well, but in fact only 1 in 100 are truly money makers.

every state has differing laws on every aspect. they also require permits and have zoning laws. the Fed is not very active in small business, but any employees will fall under some national requirements.

if i knew; what general type, what state i may be able to tell you more...

You can also find tons of "small business" books at Amazon. I guess these are described in detail. I am also planning to buy some to learn new things...
