Hi Everybody,
Smile

I need maximum information on the structural aspect of a beam. So far, I know that a suspended beam has a neutral axis (NA), top of this neutral axis, we have the compression zone and at the bottom of the NA, we have the tension zone. I understand that main reinforcement in the case of a suspended beam need to be at the bottom and the bars we place above the NA are called HANGER BARS. So far is my knowledge regarding the structural beam and I have much books but I need just some simplified guideline to enable me to pursue my study of this much important subject.

I need to know about theories and application of theories regarding the beam with simplified example, such as the link columns/beams, the link beams/slab, the reinforcement bars, space, type, cover, terminology and so forth.

Thank you. A swift reply will be very welcome.

Nicolas.

I study beam bending often on my university course, personally I would recommend finding a decent textbook on statics and learning the topic from basic principles.

University style handouts and notes can also be very useful, eg:

http://web.mit.edu/course/3/3.11/www/modules/statics.pdf

It's also a great help to go through tutorials problems step by step, for example:

http://physics.uwstout.edu/statStr/statics/Beams/bdsne47b.htm
(The units are american, not sure which you prefer)

Hope this helps
Jim

Thank you for answering. I have already downloaded the files html and pdf and will work on them in the coming days. Should I have any problem understanding the text and this will surely be the case, I will be back to you. Should you have any links to site with very elemental step-by-step notes on beams and columns and slab, let me know. Still many thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
