Not a cold war 2 by any means whatsever. Iran is effectively 3rd world, they have no way of competing with the US in respect to technology or research capabilities.

But they do when it comes to launching nuclear weapons, thats what it bottles down to. _________________ "There is no knowledge, that is not power" - Ralph Waldo Emerson. |

Not really, getting a missile to launch isn't a very difficult task. Landing it on the other side of the world with accuracy in metres is. Also their missiles are unlikely to be on par with US ones, (more accurate, faster, higher).
The US could shoot it down whereas Iran could not. _________________ Thinking of the question is greater than knowing the answer... |

You don't need a rocket to blow someone up, the last few years have illustrated that. But explosives are one thing. Dirty bombs or even nuclear warheads is another story entirely. Just because that naughty little kid can't throw well, doesnt mean I'm gonna give him a rock.
Besides the USA may not be the intended target. It doesnt take much rocket power... or even a rocket to hit targets closer by. Besides, if you managed to get perhaps North Korea or China to somehow be your friend, who needs the long range capability...
That said, the American 3 stage missile defense network is shaping up very nicely. The New THAAD is pretty awsome in itself. And that can be mobilized to the borders of rogue states. So perhaps a stand-off/cold war scenario is on the cards. But something tells me if it kicks off, this time it will get messy.

You guys arent seriously telling me you are falling for the propaganda brewed by the same people that brought us the Iraq war?
Iran is NOT a threat.
Imo, Iran should have nukes as a deterent from an attack by the only country thats killed scores of civilians with nukes and that as invaded countrys on either side of Iran and supported the Iraq war against Iran (and toppled their elected government in he 50s).
..but not only is Iran not developing nukes, its complying with the atomic energy treaties and allows inspections that have shown they are not developing weapons unlike other countries which have not signed anything and have got nukes and arent getting scrutinized (Israel, Pakistan, India).
The Lies about the wiping out of israel have been debuked by numerous Pharsy translators, the President which is likely to loose the next elections anyway(yes elections, unlike Saudi Arabia) said something like Zionism (like Naziism and communism) should be written off. The fact he was misquoted shows there a deliberate campaign to beat up the wardrums for another warcrime.
Unlike the grotesque propaganda by McCain, there is NO link between AlQaeda and Iran (in fact AlQaeda would probably get killed or arrested by Iranians, like the other terrorist groups the US is supporting within Iran)
How many Americans in the USA have been killed by Iranian terrorism last year? 1000? 10? No, none. But the US supported terrorist groups mentioned previously have killed many Iranians
So give me a brake with Iran, attacking it would be a war crime, a crime against humanity, a potential enviromental disater(nuking nuclear reators?), and the consequences would be far far more severe than the Iraq war (and not just for people in that region). |
