I've had an interest in science and astronomy for as long as I remember. One of my earliest memories was creating a map of the solar system on my wall with balloons when I was about 5 years old.
Due to an errant youth I never studied at school and ignored my natural inclinations in favour of being "one of the lads" and meeting girls. Needing money I was sucked into work rather than college and never got the opportunity to study my favourite subject at a proper academic level
From my early 20s I met my current partner and started to settle down a bit and renewed my interest in science and astronomy. Having missed a lot of schooling my downfall is the mathematical side of things although I am no dunce at maths and simply lack the techniques needed to study my interest at this level, so I read popular science books by many noted authors ranging from Paul Davies, Stephen Hawking and Kip Thorne to Charles Darwin and Richard Dawkins.
Now I am 41 and in well paid employment I hope to do the study I missed as a youngster before I hit 50... not for a career but for the joy of learning a subject close to my heart at a level I feel the subject merits.
I live in the UK with my partner of 19 years and my two sons of 10 and 6.
cheers

Welcome Slinkey
I think you'll find a lot on this forum like you - not necessarily possessing all the technical skills, but with a thirst for sound information and good explanations and arguments.

| Get a degree - it will be the accomplishment of your life. I've got three, and I'm thinking of getting my PhD, to complete my education. |
