Hi.
I caught a glimpse of a TV documentary the other day, about the discovery of (some traces of) an immense temple, dated quite a couple thousand years BCE, situated either in Africa or the Middle East (but I don't think it was anywhere in the biblical Holy Land or I would have remembered that). It was not associated with, and I think it predated, such familiar ancient civilizations as Egypt or Babylon.
Apparently, huge numbers of people from (parts of) Europe, Africa, and possibly Asia travelled long distances to worship and participate in ceremonial feasts or whatever.
Except for that documentary, I never heard about that temple, and I didn't even see the whole program, so excuse me if my description is far from precise. And I would like to know more. Did it really exist? Do we have a name for it? What civilization built it? What god(s) was it dedicated to? What was it like? What tribes or nations would have come to visit the temple?

I dont know, but I think the oldest temple found is the megalithic temples of Malta dating 3600 BC. But I dont think thats the one you´re talking about. Sounds cool though.  |
