I've been really pondering a change in career and was thinking if I should be an electrician. I have always been good at electric science in physics and have never really pursued it. I've seen that it is a good wage too. Does anyone here have any experience in becoming an electrician and is their anything I should know before I begin a course or an apprenticeship?

Do you mean electrician or electronics engineer?
If it's electrician then (in the UK) just learn the IEEE 16 edition back to front and there you go.
For electronics engineer it will be somewhere between 2 and 9 years study depending upon where you start. For the latter you will need the very best grasp of mathematics from 2+2 to complex transforms. |

Thanks. I am just looking to be able to do household repairs and maybe a few contracts. Nothing special. Its a job I'm looking to get good prosepects from and actually enjoy it. And thats the perfect job for me. Thanks.
BTW, what is an electronics engineer? Advanced electronics?

An electrical engineer deals essentially with mains distribution, house/factory/ship/power station wiring etc etc
Electronic engineers design anything from a torch to a mobile telephone, computer DVD player etc etc. |

Oh, I don't really want to design anything, at least not yet anyway. So I should just stick with fixing the house wirings and stuff then.

| Yeah and as I said it's the IEEEE 16th edition wiring regulations (or whatever they call it these days I have an old 1950's copy but it's way out of date. |
