There i was having a wonderful dream about Johnny Depp when the earth really did move and i suddenly fell out of bed!
Alll the windows were rattling!
That was scary!
Don't like it 
4.7 apparently
I'm listening to the radio and they can't make their minds up if the epicenter was West Midlands.
Did anyone else feel it?

the epicentre seems to have been in north lincolnshire - slept through the whole thing though
as for the claim that it's the biggest in 25 years, wasn't there one of more or less the same magnitude in Dudley in 2002 ?

That was scary! I live about 30 miles from the epicentre. No damage luckily.
The Dudley quake was a 5.0, this was 5.3. |

Watched it on the morning news, with the sound turned off (I was listening to Radiohead). Here's what it looked like they were saying:
"Here in Gainsborough, residents were shaken overnight by the earthquake, 5.3 on the Richter scale, that was so bad that look [picture of rubble on roadway] roof tiles have fallen onto the road. There are even reports of bricks having fallen from chimneys!
Remember the tornadoes in Birmingham? They lost roof tiles and bricks. That's the scale of the damage here.
Oh my word, there's even another town close by - and guess what? - they too have [picture of rubble and broom to sweep it up with] lost roof tiles! That's the scale of the damage here!.

I had an early night, but ha, now i have bruises on my butt from falling off the bed!
Totally disorientated me!
First thing i thought was that i was being attacked and someone had hurled me off the bed, so i leapt up ready to fight my assailant but no one was there and all the windows and my wardrobe door was rattling like there was a train going through the house.
Totally freaked me out!
Then i wondered if it was an earthquake so i turned on the radio and there was Janice Long getting her knickers in a twist about it all (thank goddness for live radio but not Janice Long, can't stand her croaky voice and she waffles, she should learn to shut up and play more records!)
Still it was a bit of excitement huh? Gave something for everyone to go on about today. Thank God i work at home and don't have to listen to it all.
(miserable cow aren't i! Its because i haven't had much sleep!)
The thing that i find most scary is a sciency friend of mine told me that the Earths crust is as thin as a varnish on a cricket ball and underneath there's just liquid sludge and then the deeper you go it turns into heaving molten larva!
Well that makes me feel safe 
Not!
That makes the idea of the earths plates moving much more real.
Could happen again then.

Pft! only a tiny tiny fraction of the earth's mantle is liquid. It still flows, mind- kind of deforms like silly putty. |

I was here on the PC last night when it hit. I've got one of those officey type chairs (pnuematic up/down system, on wheels), and it was actually bouncing up and down, and rolling back and forward on the floor....not much to be fair, but still, I enjoyed it.
I can't remeber the Dudley quake even though its closer to me, I think I probably slept through it. I can remeber the tornadoes that hit Birmingham though...it was right near me on the "Ladypool road"...and a friend had her chimney knocked off, trees fallen down everywhere, and her cat got injured by it too...must of got swept right up we reckon, and dropped somewhere....like that scene off twister with the cow!
The Matt: It was my first real Earthquake, and seen as it wasn't 9 on the richter scale...I can say I thouroughly enjoyed it!
Anyone got pets? Did ya notice any abnormal activities before hand in them? My cats weren't around to "observe", but apparently its a genuine thing (And active are of research I think) that animals can detect the things before us. They're more sensitive to the shock waves or something. |

I lived in CA when they had the 1989 earthquake. I was in the tub when the house started to creak. I thought someone was on the roof walking around. Very scarey when you are naked. Anyways then the water started to slosh and all the doors slammed shut. I jumped out, grabbed a towel and ran to turn on CNN. It was like walking on a waterbed.
I was so excited (I had already been through a flood and tornados). Then I heard about the devestation. |
