I am just wondering if someone coudl give me a list of useful components inside of computers? I have access to tons of scrap PCs, scanners and printer which are being thrown out and want to develop a keen interest in electronics and engineering. Basically I would like to assembly a large collection of spare components for a future date (when I know how to use them or possible make something from them) but I have no idea where to start.

Any thoughts?

Barry

CPU, Storage mediums, Motherboard heh depends what u wana do tho really. Though these parts seem to b specific to the computing feild you can find PC cpus and mb's inside traffic lights these days due to the fact tht the overall cost is cheaper than designing boards urself etc. Thats an example tho to show that they could be used outside ur 'PC' though. Im not an electronics enginer tho so I cant really give any more help.

If u really want to get into it check out Maplins theyv got some nice electronic sort of 'starter kits' that u may find helpfull if ur new to the area. gd luck

Most of the computer is useful. The most common things to break in a computer are the power supply and the motherboard. Problem is computer parts cause a great puzzle in what is compatible with what. You cant plug any old CPU into a motherboard for example. But if the computers your getting are similar in age you can easily repair some using all the spares you have.
