But there's one country missing: the US. I heard that gas is quite cheap there.
Gas prices reveal two things: 1) whether gas is produced domestically (lowering the price) and 2) the political leaning of the country (leftwing countries having higher taxes on gas, such as the 'ecotax' we have in Holland) |

With the terrible disaster in Louisiana, gazoline prices are again a hot topic. I heard that prices have allmost doubled in some places!  |

Gas is down to $3.05 here today. It was $3.29 - $3.50. In some parts of the US it was over $6. Granted that was because of the Hurricane.
The problem here is people are first not use to the high prices, and second not equipped for it. They love to drive their 8 - 12 mpg SUV's and Full sized trucks around with one person in them. It's a shame. That in turn causes more of a gas shortage because these people are using 2-3 times as much fuel. But hey, what do I know.
The SUV and Truck drivers will tell me it's not them causing any sort of problem. To me it seams that if you use 2-3 times more fuel in your vehicle that the country would have 2-3 times less fuel to go around. Again, but what do I know. |

The problem to me is that most of that gas was already manufactured and in tranisit when the hurricane hit. So they sold gas that only was to be sold at the 2.60 range for over 3.20 , that's called ripping off the consumers.
Anyone who buys a SUV must be wealthy for they are really paying the higher rates more than the regular car owners. So let them pay the higher prices, that's their choice. I don't think those SUV's should even have been made for they are a hazzard to smaller cars also if they hit them in an accident. |

we got $1.20-$1.30.(australian dolars)
i've heard it might go up to $1.60 soon.
good thing Honda have started producing hydrogen powered cars. |

One US dollar is worth about 1.31 AU dollars. So your gas is like 92 cents here. My god that's cheap. Even at $1.60 ($1.20 US) that's still very cheap. Picture paying $3.82 (AU). That's what we are getting hit with. It's also going back up again. I suspect it will be back over $3 US in the next few days. |

that is true but by comparison to the 40c/L, i think, it used to be it still hits everyone hard, well exept my family because my Aunt has a company car, FREE FUEL!  |

The problem in the US is that we don't have enough gas to go around. We didn't have enough refineries to start, and then bad weather and bad luck have taken out most of the rest. We also have a TON of people that insist on driving gas guzzling SUV's and trucks to do everything. The combination of things have left the US with no gas at all to spare. I expect it will hit $5/gal in the next few months. Now if we took all the SUV's off the road we would have much more gas to go around. Perhaps not a complete fix but it sure would help.
Sorry, I really dislike those stupid beasts.
