Does anyone know what the general amount of tolerance is for a car? I know if a power line falls on a car, it'll short out everything, and you won't be able to start the car. I'm a engineering student/tinkerer/inventor btw.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Do you mean mechanical tolerances? What would that have to do with the electrical system shorting out? And why do you think a power line falling on a car would short everything out?
