Normally, I am consdered insane and to have werid hobby's but here I look realtivly sane and rational I am not saying it would be nice all the time but its nice to go some place where your opinion doesn't go over peoples heads or seem completly crazy _________________ In the study of life in todays socity there are sevral truth we must face the folowing are the ones I have manged to come to terms with:
1. You will probably end up doing something related to Cancer, Aids, or some other dieases that incovinces the genral public
2. In order to make money you either will be doing the afore mentioned research because that is where all the free grant money is, working for a company, or having to teach people some of whom really should not be there
3. You cannot take up reserach biologist as a hobby inless you have another substancial form of income |

If there is one thing I've learned from life, its that there is no such thing as 'normal'. And most people here are snubby upstuck up their own backsided hypocrites, and the few thatcomplain about them . But no I don't feel normal here, people are so inconsiderate that I don't feel at the same page with others here. But thats my opinion. _________________ "There is no knowledge, that is not power" - Ralph Waldo Emerson. |

On one hand, being a 37-year-old cabinetmaker and unmedicated family man without police record, I know I'm normal, all too normal.
On the other hand, earnest questions and hypotheses I've put to this science forum mostly garner lame or flaky comment, or (the vast majority of readers) no comment at all, as though my thoughts are too obscure. Perhaps I need a pickable shtick like 425 Chaotic Requisition's, to pull dialogue here. |

Maybe this post is interesting for you, especially the article quoted in the original post. In most small communities (high school classes, small villages, neighbourhoods) being intelligent and / or being interested in science is a kind of deviance. Bullies will try to make you believe that it really is something strange to like learning, to seek knowledge voluntarily. But once you look beyond those small communities you find that for a great number of people it's completely normal behaviour. And at this forum it's the standard
The main thing I learned at university is that in the end every form of science is interesting, every specialized field of science can be fun to study once you get to know it a bit. As a kid I didnt really understand why people would devote their life to theoretical physics or mathematics. But even though I still don't know much about these fields, I do understand now that people can have a lot of fun with it. It's not something weird, it's just healthy human curiosity |

You pegged him alright. Quesnel is a remote, small, logging town. I'll bet half the kids who stay there get careers at the pulp mills. Or driving log trucks. Itchy feet eh Kenny? |
