Shortly after midnight on Nov. 8, four armed men broke into the Pelindaba nuclear facility 18 miles west of Pretoria, a site where hundreds of kilograms of weapons-grade uranium are stored. According to the South African Nuclear Energy Corp., the state-owned entity that runs the Pelindaba facility, these four "technically sophisticated criminals" deactivated several layers of security, including a 10,000-volt electrical fence, suggesting insider knowledge of the system. Though their images were captured on closed-circuit television, they were not detected by security officers because nobody was monitoring the cameras at the time.
So, undetected, the four men spent 45 minutes inside one of South Africa's most heavily guarded "national key points" -- defined by the government as "any place or area that is so important that its loss, damage, disruption or immobilization may prejudice the Republic."
Eventually, the attackers broke into the emergency control center in the middle of the facility, stole a computer (which was ultimately left behind) and breached an electronically sealed control room. After a brief struggle, they shot Anton Gerber, an off-duty emergency services officer. Gerber later explained that he was hanging around because he believed (reasonably, in retrospect) that his fiancée -- a site supervisor -- was not safe at work. Although badly injured, Gerber triggered the alarm, setting off sirens and lights and alerting police stationed a few miles away.
Nevertheless, the four escaped, leaving the facility the same way they broke in.
Amazingly, at the same time those four men entered Pelindaba from its eastern perimeter, a separate group of intruders failed in an attempt to break in from the west. The timing suggests a coordinated attack against a facility that contains an estimated 25 bombs' worth of weapons-grade nuclear material. On Nov. 16, local police arrested three suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 28, in connection with this incident.

Awareness without action is pointless and irrelevant. Thats like saying oh my house is being robbed but oh well I can't do anything about it. I'd rather not know my house was being robbed if I couldn't do anything about it.

Ok, well you qualified your first reply by saying their was nothing you could do at this time.
Is there something we/you can do in the future?
Firstly, we/you can talk about it and make everybody else aware.
With the power of the vote we/you can do something about getting rid of Nuclear Power if we/you so wish.

Oh yes I'm all for getting rid of nuclear fission. I'd personally like nuclear fusion, or a better idea, portable fusion generators that every household has so there is no longer need for a national grid  .
We could try to get a lot of people against what governments do but even with all that power of people we still wouldn't be able to get them to disarm and get rid of them, unless (and this is very unlikely) we all made a strike to not work AT ALL. EVERYONE EVERYWHERE stop working and then they have no choice but to give in to our demands. We the people have control, not the government.

Nuke control is like gun control. As long as the technology exists (ie. as long as someone somewhere knows how to build it), nukes will always be a fact of life. Even if every nuclear power disarmed tomorrow, we'd never be more than maybe 6 months or a year away from building more if we wanted to.
The only way you can keep nukes out of the hands of terrorists is to put all of the uranium (and uranium by-products like plutonium) in the world under lock and key. Uranium is 5 times as plentiful as gold, though, so you have to go a step further and put all the underground mineral vanes under some kind of surveillance too.

A: Putting lols in all the time is offensive as it demeans my beleifs in that you assume me to be a crackpot.
B: The rapture is an evangelical Christian look at the second coming of Christ, for all they and we know He could come back on a Triumph with fire trailing behind Him with sunglasses on at 6am in the summer morning.
If Christ comes back then let it be so, if He does not I shall not contest the will of The LORD.

Yes, i have mentioned it before, i do believe those of faith are deluded, that is my right, from my point of view, i respect you believe in a deity, in the same way i respect the belief of others who believe in fairys, the flying spaghetti monster or whatever else people choose to believe in, it doesn't meaqn i have to take that seriously

Yes but it would be nice if you didn't put in the lols all the time. When you do that every time its the equivalent of what you accused me of in the 'Is homosexuality wrong' thread, granted mine views maybe were stronger but since then I have rectified my views to an understandable level and am longer of that opinion.

From Australias point of view we refuse to bury the waste therefore not giving the industry a get-out-of-jail-free card.
It's a samll thing, but it does contribute to discouraging the industry.
Much like we don't enrich Uranium at great financial loss: it's a statement.
