A whole new visual effects make over:

When I first read about this I was a bit skeptical. But ya know, after seeing a newly improved episode last sunday....I gotta tell ya......I thought it as pretty awesome.

What makes it work is that they didn't go overboard with the new digital inserts. It's not like one moment you see the old grainy 1960's set with kirk and the crew and the next moment you get some five minute-virtuoso space battle in which the animators shoot their wads off by cramming in every super sleek digatized gimmick they could find.

For one, the original exterior space inserts were never that long. Just a few seconds really. And the updated versions are kept within those time frames. Yet even stylistically speaking, the new footage is far more subtle than anything else. The Enterprise still has that classy, almost tacky, look to it but now it's shown with better lighting, stronger detail and more three demensional depth. And as it flys through space, the camera pans are breif and understated.

The overall effect is very well balanced. I think they've done a fine job. So far.

- You will know...
